Middle School Year-End Survey 2008

  •  What was a favorite activity on Wednesday evenings? (large group discussions, small groups, art activity, speakers, movies, etc. ) Why?
  • I really liked the small groups and the art activities because if you wanted to say something it was easier to get your point across than in a large group.
  • I really enjoyed the movies that went along with large group discussions.  All those people gathered together with a common belief let me feel God’s presence.
  • I liked large groups because it gave everyone a chance to know each other better
  • Small groups because we have more time to talk…
  • When we made lasagna for the homeless shelter
  • Movies and small group activities/discussions because watching movies I learn a lot and in small groups I feel more comfortable to talk and be myself.
  • My favorite activity on Wednesday evenings was the large group discussions.  I found it amazing how everyone would open up, and no one would be judged.  You don’t get that often. I found these moments were the ones when we were closest.
  • I liked everything but one of the things that stood out for me was the Easter activity we did where we went into a separate room and went through quiet – peaceful stations.  I liked it because it gave me a different sort of feeling – something I can’t explain but it was a happy feeling.  I also loved the scavenger hunt!
  • Small groups (playing game, talking, laughing), art activities, scavenger hunt!  It makes my Wednesday nights fun and exciting.
  • Splitting into groups and talking within the group about things while doing an activity
  • I particularly enjoy bouncing ideas off of each other in small group settings. This allows us to focus and be honest with each other.  It is very special if the group is led by either Lyssa, Georgia or Kara.
  • Movies because we are learning but it is so fun it doesn't’t seem like we are

  • What would you tell an incoming 7th grade student about the UCC Middle School program?
  • I would tell them that it’s a really fulfilling experience.  It’s easy to state your opinion because no one judges you.
  • That it is a great, welcoming environment.  All the pressure from school is lifted and you can forget all your worries for an hour.
  • That it is so much fun and not to think it is all about homework and strict.
  • That they should come to as many Wednesday nights that they can and enjoy them as much as possible.
  • It’s going to be a blast!  Your high expectations will be exceeded.
  • Don’t be afraid to express your feelings.  You may feel nervous and vulnerable, but everyone probably feels some of that.  If you are willing to open up, others will want to as well. It will open so many doors.  No one needs to be afraid of expressing how they feel when they are here.
  • That you really feel at home and that you can talk about anything.
  • It’s not like what your friends talk about their religion, it’s more fun and entertaining.
  • It’s crazy, fun, and you learn new Bible things
  • It’s awesome and that you can really be yourself and have lots of fun but still learn something at the same time.
  • Don’t be shy, I would tell them that it’s awesome.  The old religion place I went to had no way of making anything fun.  This place does a great job of making religion fun and that helps keep the concepts you learn stuck in your head as you grow up.
  • I would tell a 7th grade student that this program is very fun, safe, and you are always welcome.
  • To be involved is the best. But to listen is okay too.  Bells are a really fun musical activity.
  • You’re going to have a BLAST!
  • It is a fun, safe, and open doors program.  People from all backgrounds and walks of life are welcome.  Bring your brain, positive thoughts, and be ready for a great time.
  • It might sound bad but it is a blast

  • Is there something that you will always remember from this year’s program?
  • I will remember the extra service projects because not only were they fun, they helped me to help others.  It felt really good to know I was reaching out to people who needed it.
  • All the fun I had, the friends I made, plus the way Lyssa, Georgia and Kara interacted with us.
  • I’ll always remember the bond I had with everyone.  At the beginning of the year, I was scared of being judged.  But, I’ve really learned that when you are with people that want to be with God, there are no barriers.  I’m going to really miss the eighth graders, they really opened up the conversations.  I’m going to try to do that next year.
  • Everything.  I love you guys. You make life for us that much easier and fun to live.  You’re always so happy and it’s contagious.  You make us forget about the bad things in life even if it’s just for an hour.
  • The message of our African partnership.  It really made me think about how I was living compared to them.
  •  For the time that I was here I would have to say just how kind, considerate and welcoming everyone was, I was never afraid to share anything.
  • My friends, my teachers, the commercials, learning about God, and all the fun times I had.
  • I will always remember how touching and inspirational Lyssa, Georgia and Kara’s words of prayer were. They flowed fluently and openly into the hearts of the youth.
  • The candlelight room and all of my friends.
  • EXTRA COMMENTS FROM BOTTOM OR BACK OF SHEETS
  • Thanks for a great year!  I will never forget it!
  • I (heart) Jesus
  • I (heart) u guys and I miss u!
  • I love you guys so much.  Thank you for Everything
  • I really like coming here because it is so stress-free.  For school it’s all about turning stuff in on time and not being late to class.  Here I just come to be healed after a week of worrying about possessions and other things that I’ll never remember after the next day.  I always look forward to Wednesday nights.  I feel healed when I leave.
